I saw a tiny Sakura bloom today - the perfect moment to finally open this beautiful Japanese craft liqueur, such a thoughtful gift from @fujitafusaki and @fujita_elena all the way from Japan 🙏❤️ And even more special to enjoy it in these stunning handmade clay cups by my incredibly talented artist friend Ina Kaur @wildwomanpotter @studio_inkspace 🙏❤️ Feeling grateful for these beautiful meaningful gifts 🌸🌸🌸

This cold winter has done one good thing for me — it sent me hiding into the studio to make new work. And I finally painted my dog Mars (and my cat Gosha, who, at 16, has long been part of my visual world 😊).

This painting, “It Was Raining Then, and Cold, but the Heart Knew No Frost”, is inspired by a line from a poem by Anna Akhmatova. In it, “frost” speaks not only of winter’s chill, but of emotional isolation and the quiet forces that test our endurance — even our humanity.

I just delivered it to The Mansion at Strathmore in Bethesda, MD for a juried exhibition on view March 7 – April 22, with an opening reception on Thursday, March 19 7 to 9 PM.
